If you haven’t already done it, please read the Philanthropy thread of this site. I’m going to Peru to help kids who live in really extreme poverty. I’m paying for everything out of my own pocket. However, you have an opportunity to help these kids out too. The schools, teachers and students have needs that go unmet. I plan to buy supplies they need – vitamins, childrens clothing, chalk, pencils/pens, paper, books, paint…really anything you see in a U.S. school, they need.
If you’d like to support these kids too, I will take financial donations from you and buy goods that the teachers and program directors tell me to buy. I asked them if I could bring supplies and, especially books, but they said bringing money was better for two reasons. (a) easier for me to pack and (b) money spent at small stores to buy the goods would also support the local community in important ways.
I’m not going to do anything official, or tax deductible. My promise to you is that I will spend 100% of your donation wisely on goods they need, and that I will provide pictures of where your supplies went on this blog. I will also write you a nice card from Peruvian artisans thanking you!
Any size donation is welcome: $5, $25, $50. You can either send me a personal check, or you can send me your donation via paypal to my account. Email me if you would like either address.
